PARTICK ORANGE HALLS: Glasgow, Scotland's newest, impressive Orange Halls and the only one with a lift!

The first Orange Hall in Partick on the west side of the city in Crawford Street was a satelite or mission church of the large kirk at the top of Byres Road. It was common in Victorian times for the affluent congregations to open branch churches in working class areas. In later years Partick Orange District was to open an additional hall as you will see in the painting below. When they bought the original building it costs £10 a not inconsiderable amount back then.

Today how much different the picture is. In the new premises nuilt up the way is the modern home of the 6 lodges of Partick Orange Ditrict pluis preceptories of No 1 Black District Chapter tand he Apprentice Boys of Derry Club, Other outdie organisations are welcome to have a let. The new name for this great new Orange Centre is to be Crawford Halls (it sits in Crawford Street). This is not some attempt to mean any negative vibe on the Orange name but it includes a function suite that anyone may hire for weddings, social occasions etc who have no connection.
