No 1 - Italian Orange Support!
On the way back from the 12th parade, the County Grand lodge had just swung off Castle Street to head for the Evangelical Church and dismissal. However due to a police slip up, some traffic had blocked the City Officebearers from turning into the cul-de-sac the church is in. It took a couple of minutes to clear the traffic however and I was right beside a group of excited young people in their late teens. They had just came out of the Museum of Religion and they were obviously curious what the colourful parade was.
I stepped onto the pavement and got into a brief chat and they were full of questions. It turned out they were Italians and I explained about the Order being patriotic, loyal to the Crown, all of which they nodded to but when I emphasised that it was a strongly Protestant organisation and promoted that faith, whilst showing the errors of the RC Church, they were literally over the moon. They got very animated at this and supportive. The parade started up and they all waved me and the parade on but it got me wondering why young Italians were so keen on the Protestant stance? Were they perhaps from the tiny Protestant Waldensian Church in the middle of Romanist Italy?
I will never know but the agreement and support of those young Italians was tremendous and just finished a great day nicely.?

Whilst in the Netherands I went out to visit Het Loo, outside the beautiful town of Apeldorn. Het Loo was Prince William of Orange's favourite palace and it was the same for the present Dutch Monarch although the Royal Family now no long use it. The palace is maintained as it was in William's time
Anyway, I toured the building and went up onto the roof. it was a magnificent, hot, sunny day. It was Tuesday and I had been at the Glasgow "Walk" just that prior weekend so I was in a buoyant mood. I asked one of the liveried Royal attendants if he would mind taking my picture with the tremendous fountain and gardens behind. He readily agreed and out came the County tie,and regalia. He was quite bemused and after the pictures he was curious what it was all about. I dutifully explained and his eyes lit up. "I am a good Protestant", he exclaimed. "Where can I join it here?". I laughed and explained the situation but he insisted on learning more. We sat on a bench on the Palace roof and spent a good twenty minutes with him and insisted on giving me his e-mail and home address to send out information. At the gate I had another attendant take a picture also and some fellow trourists seeing the Orange regalia (and probably assuming it was something to do with the Dutch House of Orange?) asked if they could snap me as well. It was again a good finish to a day and an excellent opportunity to portray Orangism in Prince William's place.
